About conference


Having in mind growth and development of the event industry in Romania, main goal of this conference is to raise awarenwess on the matters of health and safety which often tend to be lost in the vastness of promoters` and venues` issues to solve.

There is a wide spectre of factors which can lead to accidents at events and it is very hard and unlikely for someone to know them all. Therefore, a proactive sessions will have a common goal to encourage all the atendees to think deep about their events or venues, to exchange experiences with others, and to deliver best possible practices which will make the visitors feel safe.

Our wish is to both deliver expertise from some of the most experienced people in the field of health & safety from EU, but also to address the current issues in Romania with all aspects covered.

No, seminar is absolutely free of charge.


In what language will the seminar be?
Some of the sessions will be in English, some in Romanian. However, sessions in English will be simoultaneously translated in Romanian.



Markus Wiersch

Karlsruhe Event GmbH


Operates since 1991 in the event sector and has gained experience in various areas of the music industry.
In 2000 he specialized in planning and coordination of security structures and activities at major events. For the last 13 years he has been in the production line responsible for the planning and implementation of the Health and Safety concept of DAS FEST in Karlsruhe.
Since 2014 he acts as deputy CEO at the Karlsruhe Event GmbH with the focus on project management and coordination of infrastructure and security for major events in the city of Karlsruhe. Markus Wiersch is a member of the European Festival Association Yourope and Yourope Event Safety (YES) Group.
2008 certified in theaters, stadia and Venue Safety (Bucks New University) 2013 certified Event Security & Safety Manager (IBIT / Bucks)


Sven Varsek

Agentur blue event


is economic computer scientist, and operates since 1988 in the event sector and has gained experience in various areas of the event industry.
In 1996 he founded his own event agency and specialized in the planning and coordination of major events (> 50.000 visitors) for public institutions and administrations. For the last 7 years he has even been responsible for the conception and organisation of DAS FEST in Karlsruhe.
Sven Varsek is a member of the European Festival Association Yourope, the Yourope Event Safety (YES) Group and the German Association for event business (bdv).


Codruta Vulcu

Founder and Festival Director of ARTmania Festival


Codruta Vulcu is the Founder and Festival Director of ARTmania Festival, one of Romania´s most established events with it´s 11th edition scheduled for 2016, promoting mainly rock & metal acts.In 2014 the BlajaLive Festival was launched with focus on alternative and electronic music.These two medium sized festivals with more than 10.000 attendees per edition are organized in Transylvania, the western historical region of Romania.
Codruta was raised in the spirit of art having a bachelor degree in Art Photography and a master degree in Art History, from the National University of Arts in Bucharest.
During the studies (2000 – 2005) she exhibited her artistic works in personal exhibitions at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest as well as in the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki.In this period she was also a press correspondent for various Romanian publications covering some of the biggest European festivals.
Her passion for art and music led her, in 2005, to establish the cultural platform ARTmania, under the slogan “Where art & entertainment meet”.During 2007, when Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture, ARTmania organized the closing ceremonies in the Large Square of the city hosting performances of Europe, Reamonn and Groupe F.From 2005 onwards ARTmania organized shows of bands such as: Manu Chao La Ventura, Matisyahu, Nightwish, HIM, SerjTankian, Within Temptation, Die Toten Hosen, Jon Lord, JethroTull, DeineLakaien, TarjaTurunen, Awolnation, Seether, Matthias Meyer, MatiasAguayo, Kenny Larkin, 65daysofstatic or Vonda Shepard, either as stand alone events or part of the two festivals.


Pascal Viot

Head of Heath and Safety at Paléo Festival


Pascal Viot is head of Heath and Safety at Paléo Festival Nyon since 2006. As an expert in emergency planning and crowd management, he was recently involved in the major concerts organisation in Switzerland like the Rolling Stones (Lausanne) and The Police (Genève) in 2007 and Sonisphere Festival (Yverdon) in 2012. Being also a sociologist and a researcher, he achieved a PhD at EPFL (in 2013) dealing with urbanism and security during major events. Member of the Yourope Event Safety Group and president of the Swiss Institut for Urban Security and Event Safety (iSSUE)


Radu Calacianu

Marketing manager, Cluj Arena Stadium


Born and raised in ClujNapoca, graduated from the “Transilvania” Transportation Technical College, and then attended the courses of the Technical University of ClujNapoca, Faculty of Machine Manufacturing, Profile: Design. After graduating the college, attended master courses within the same faculty, section: Industrial Design – Machines. As a student, worked as salesman for several reputed companies in ClujNapoca. Afterwards, was lucky enough to begin his career in advertising, more precisely, in marketing at the Cluj Arena Stadium.
He had the privilege and honour to meet here important people of the Romanian and international sports world. Proposed, for the future, to evolve more and more professionally, and the name of the stadium he represent to be amongst those on the top list of national and international events.


Steve Allen



Steve Allen is the Founder and Principle Safety Consultant at Imagine Corporation Ltd, A UK Event Safety Consultancy specializing within the leisure and Event Sectors. The company provide event and venue safety solutions, event safety management and training courses worldwide. The company aim is to provide pragmatic solutions, based on years of experience, the live event industry and complex situations.Steve Allen has accrued 25 years experience within the event and leisure industry. Prior to this, Steve was in the Royal Navy where he served as a ships firefighter also carrying out fire safety management and fire safety checks, aboard warships and Naval establishments.On leaving the Royal Navy, Steve worked in the Nightclub industry completely revamping the approach to fire safety management within the Nightclub sector. This was conducted in partnership with the Fire and Rescue Service whereby staff were trained in the fire related hazards synonymous with Licensed premises and Nightclubs.Steve has conducted numerous world tours with artistes including Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shakira, Eminem and Kasabian. Steve has also been contracted to provide event safety consultancy; specifically relating to crowd management, fire safety and emergency management, at a wide range of national and international events ranging from Royal Events, Terminal Openings at Heathrow Airport, Biofuel Test flight with Virgin Atlantic, Stereosonic Australia, World Motocross, Renault F1, Royal Events in the Middle East, Exhibitions, UK Winter Wonderlands amongst others. Steve was appointed as Led Zeppelins’ Head of Security and Safety for their one off London Performance, and has been contracted as the event safety officer for numerous events including Red Bull, Rolling Stones, Train Station events (London/Sydney) and various Music Festivals worldwide.Steve Allen was contracted to train the Glastonbury Festival Fire Risk Assessment Team, when the new Fire Safety legislation came into force in the UK. The same team are still used today.Steve’s work and experience with crowds developed the ShowstopProcedure which he pioneered, with Oasis in the late 90’s. This life saving procedure is now used worldwide at a wide range of events and is recognized by the UK Health and Safety Executive, and Local Government Authorities.Steve has consulted on numerous event safety guidance documents inclusive of the Purple Guide, Managing Crowds Safely and Australian Live Performance Audience Management Chapter. He is contacted to design bespoke training solutions, consult on major events worldwide, and assist with the strategic planning, tactical and operational elements of major events worldwide.Steve Allen is a Chartered Fire Safety Professional with Full Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers and Institute of Fire Safety Managers. Steve has a degree in Crowd and Safety Management and Degree Level Occupational Health and Safety Qualification with the British Safety Council, as well as being a Fellow of the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management and a Chartered Safety Professional in the UK.


Guido Janssens

Managing partner Emagic


Belgian born Guido Janssens started his career in the entertainment field as singer in a couple of locally known pop/rock-bands and co-founder of non-profit organization M.O.T. (Music On Top) , an ONG supporting up and coming musical talent in Belgium, in his early 20-ies.
Soon he was offered a job at indie record label A.R.S. , where he became ‘International Coordinator’ , planning the international success of TECHNOTRONIC, best known for their worldwide hit record ‘Pump Up The Jam’. In 1990 he found himself at the helm of EMI Music Publishing as General Manager and after a short adventure as partner in Belgian artist management company TEMPO, Janssens became marketing director at record label CNR/ARCADE and moved on – in 1997 – to head ARCADE’S international A&R and marketing operations out of The Netherlands.At the turn of the century, Janssens decided it was time to ‘stand on his own feet’ and set up Emagic Entertainment Holland , an ‘entertainment marketing boutique’, together with his Romanian wife, Laura Coroianu. In 2005 Emagic , now joined by Leon Ramaekers (Mojo Concerts Holland), he became a concert promoter in Romania and sold out the national football stadium in Bucharest with a Depeche Mode show in 2006; this being –according to specialists in the field- the true starting point for the international live music industry in Romania.Concerts promoted in Romania by Emagic include, a.o.,Shakira, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Lenny Kravitz, Madonna, Santana, The Killers, Moby, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Mark Knopfler, Roger Waters (The Wall), Sting, Kylie Minogue, Nelly Furtado, Pink, Joe Cocker, Ricky Martin, Lady Gaga, …


Raed Arafat

Head of Emergency Situations Department


In 1990 in TarguMures, he lays the foundations of the Resuscitation and Extrication Mobile Emergency Service (SMURD), subsequently become the quick intervention national service. Raed Arafat has within the Ministry of Health several important positions: from Under-Secretary of State, Secretary of State and from October 2012 to December 2012 he is interim minister of this ministry. Since 2014, Raed Arafat has been secretary of State, Head of Emergency Situations Department within the Ministry of Interior. Raed Arafat is part within NATO from the Work Group of Health, Food Service and Agriculture, where he is high expert and co-president. Raed Arafat is coordinator of the telemedicine program financed by NATO, and the purpose of such program is to create the possibility to receive specialty support and consultancy from physicians all around the world.


Lucian VasileMihoc

Commander of Firefight brigade – Timis County


Lucian is the chief inspector of Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of Timiscounty. He graduated Police Academy – Faculty of Firefighters in 2001. He started his career in Buzias Firefighter Station as second officer in command, shortly after he moved to Timisoara city where in 3 years he became the commander of one of the two local firefighters brigade. In 2009 he was promoted to second officer in command of inspectorate of Emergency Situations of Timis County. From 2014 to present he is the commander of all the firefighters of the Timis County.


Ing. Marius Rus

Owner of the Daos Club, Timisoara


Marius Rus is one of the founders and owner of the most long-living clubs in Timisoara. Over 10 years of events Daos club is now iconic for Timisoara, being one of the last indoor places for rock, jazz, metal, punk, hardcore bands to perform. With over 400 events organized, Mariuses experience in medium sized events is hard to beat in western Romania. At some time he is an electrical engineer specialized in providing for club owners necessary documentation for operating authorization. All this makes ing. Marius Rus an important voice with experience in both fields – Safety and event planning.
